The 'Give Me Five Healthy Eating'
board game is for children aged 5 years and over. It is
designed to help young kids understand the basic aspects of healthy eating.
It builds on the fact that healthy eating is such an important topic in our
schools and helps reinforce the message given in the very popular ‘Jamie
Oliver’s school dinners.’
Teducate
games are "made by students, for students" and the 'Give Me Five Healthy
Eating'
board game is the first of a number of games that are designed to make
learning about social issues more
enjoyable for young children. Our idea was to develop a multi-use
educational game for primary schools. The Teducate 'Give Me 5' game concept
is unique because all of the players move at the same time, unlike
traditional board games.
This
special feature gives players a feeling of unity and so encourages team
working. It also reinforces counting and colour recognition in the young
with all players doing the same thing.
Each
'Give Me Five Healthy
Eating'
game
folder consists of 48 question cards, a pack of 5 different food group
tokens (protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals, carbohydrates and fats),
six counters and a die along with a set of instructions.
Supplementary packs
of question cards will be made available to focus on specific topic areas or
meet the needs of different age or ability groups. Depending on the topic of
the game only the icons and questions change whilst the game board stays the
same. Extra game boards can also be bought if a family of school wants to
play the game with more than six people.
